Cowboy Poet Named High River Parade Marshall

Born and raised southern Albertan Doris Daley found out she was to be the 2011 Little Britches Parade Marshall a couple of months ago, but was asked to keep the decision top secret. On Friday, the cat was finally out of the bag and Daley told the Times that she’s honoured to be a part of history.

“Here I am a southern Alberta ranch girl making my living as a cowboy poet trying to capture snapshots of the West and going around North America sharing those vignettes with people who are eager to celebrate or learn about the West,” she said. “Now in May I’ll be made parade marshall of a very historical event that celebrates all of those values I spend all year bragging about when I go to gigs all over the place.”

Daley, who is a well-known cowboy poet, will be travelling on a float with fellow wordsmiths who are representing the 2011 parade theme of “A Salute to Cowboy Poetry.”
