July 10 – Day 3 – 2011 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Championship

Day 3 of the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby started out under partly cloudy skies and 23°C but turned to thunderstorms for the last 2 heats. Ray Mitsuing, driving the Sandlewood Developments outfit, took first place on the night with a run of 1:16.54.

Coming off barrel number 4 in heat number 6, Mitsuing posted the fast time of the night won top money by 59 one-hundreds of a second over day 2 winner Colt Cosgrave. Reg Johnstone placed third, while Luke Tournier and Obrey Motowylo split fourth and fifth for the night.

After 3 runs Rick Fraser continues to lead the overall aggregate with a 3 day combined time of 3:50.70. That puts him 1.52 seconds ahead of Obrey Motowylo in second place, followed by Colt Cosgrave, with Roger Moore and Reg Johnstone splitting fourth and fifth overall after three runs.

The aggregate winner will be declared after 8 nights on Friday, July 15, and the top 8 in the aggregate on that day will go into “Semi Final Saturday.” The top 4 times from heats 8 and 9 on semi final Saturday on July 16 will go into the sudden death championship final heat. The winner of the final heat will be declared the 2011 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion.

Day 4 from the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby can be heard live on Saturday, July 11 at 6:15pm on Classic Country AM1060 out of Calgary, 890AM CJDC out of Dawson Creek, 99.7 FM The Wolf out of Bonnyville. 96.6 CKFM out of Olds.
