Head injury sidelines Kelts

Sam Kelts has been grounded. And it could be next spring before doctors clear him to resume his rodeo career.

The Millarville saddle bronc rider sustained a severe concussion earlier this month at a rodeo in Fort Madison, Iowa, that resulted in four seizures and put him in the hospital for about eight days before he was allowed to return home.

Doctors in Calgary, armed with reports from the medical staff in Iowa, imposed a six-month term on the disabled list.

“I can’t even drive a car,” he said.

It means he’ll turn out of the $1.3 million Canadian Finals Rodeo at Edmonton, which begins its fiveday run at Rexall Place on Nov. 9.

“I feel fine, but they want me to stay away from things where I might bump my head,” said Kelts.

“If I did, there are possibilities of more seizures.”
