Garth Brooks to perform at the Calgary Stampede Centennial

The Calgary Stampede has friends in low place, high places — and apparently country music royalty. Organizers have announced that they’ve booked superstar Garth Brooks to perform at the Saddledome July 12 for this year’s 100th anniversary event. Ticket information will be announced Tuesday. The 50-year-old Brooks is one of the best selling musicians of all time, placing only behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles in overall album sales in the United States, and has won Grammy Awards and numerous country music awards. Last month it was announced that the Oklahoma native would be the newest inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Calgary show will be one of Brooks’s few live performances since his return in 2009 from semi-retirement.
