It’s All About the Numbers

As all of our dedicated subscribers know, we produce six issues of Cowboy a year. This year is a big anniversary here at Tanner Young

Publishing Group; we are celebrating 15 years of Canadian Cowboy Country magazine. I went through all the back issues and gleaned interesting tidbits that are snapshots of “the times” we’ve lived so far.

With this being our celebratory issue, there is no better qualified person to be on the cover and highlighted as our Living Legend than Hugh McLennan. He’s been with the magazine since its inception and he’s also celebrating a big number in his career. His iconic radio show, The Spirit of the West is now in its 20th year.

It’s also our annual Vacation Guide, a compendium of terrific vacation ideas, destinations, chuckwagon schedules and professional and amateur rodeo events for the whole family. I also had a great time choosing my Editor’s Picks, many of the places I’ve experienced, and a few are on my wish list.

In keeping with our vacation theme, we have an article on camping with horses written by wilderness wrangler B.J. Smith. You can even learn a couple of knots! Photographer and writer J. Bradford White from Banff wrote a terrific piece on the Ya Ha Tinda Ranch; and we also offer a fascinating Trailblazer on Ray Knight, often referred to as the Father of Modern Rodeo.

I hope you enjoy this anniversary issue. There have been a countless number of people who have contributed to the success of this magazine over the years?—?whether through writing, photography, editing, sales, and subscribing. On behalf of the publisher and staff, past and present, thanks for saddling up and riding along with us here in

Canadian Cowboy Country.
