Cowboy Poetry

Old and Wise

Written by The Hayshaker’s Wife, Rose Bibby Sunday, 29 January 2012 20:21

Old and Wise

I had a wise old father-in-law
Who gave to me his marriage law
He’d lived to be some ninety-two
So he’d sure found out what to do
To git along without a fuss
To win the fight and never cuss…

I asked him how he’d lived so long
“This rule,” he said, “Is never wrong,”
Jist walk outside, when she sets in
To gittin’ out the rollin’ pin,
And by the time the day is o’r
She’ll be smilin’ at the door…

I’m right as rain at ninety-two
Sound of mind and body too
“Because,” he said, with smile so fair,
“Spent many a day in the open air…!”
