Grant Profit – Near Track Record On Night 2 In Edmonton

Day 2 of the Dodge World Chuckwagon Championships in Edmonton ran Wednesday night under perfect weather conditions.

Current world point’s leader Kelly Sutherland still sits atop the World Standings with 1,278 points; 72 points better than Buddy Bensmiller, with defending World Champion Jason Glass sitting in 3rd place in the World Standings with 1,153.5 points after 2 nights of running in Edmonton. The World Champion will be declared on Saturday night, with no points being awarded on Sunday.

Night 2 of Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby saw former Edmonton finalist Grant Profit, driving the Ja-Co Welding & Consulting outfit, post the fastest time over the 2 nights so far with a near track record run of 1:15.68.

Coming off barrel number 3 in heat number 8, Profit won the day money by 47 one-hundreds of a second over Luke Tournier who placed 2nd for the night, followed by Jerry Bremner, Mike Vigen and Troy Dorchester rounding out the top 5 for the night. Profit’s run was just 13 one-hundreds of a second shy of Hugh Sinclair’s 1999 track record of 1:15.55.

Mike Vigen now leads the aggregate standings with a 2-day total time of 2:37.26. Luke Tournier, Reg Johnstone and Buddy Bensmiller make up the top 4, with day 2 winner Grant Profit just on the outside sitting in 5th place overall. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday night will go into the sudden death championship final heat where the winner will take home the 2010 Edmonton Chuckwagon Derby Championship.

Events from the Dodge World Chuckwagon Championships and Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby will continue every night at 7:00pm with live coverage heard live each night also starting at 7:00pm on Classic Country AM1060 out of Calgary, 890AM CJDC out of Dawson Creek and 99.7 FM The Wolf out of Bonnyville.
