Kelly Sutherland and Buddy Bensmiller Dead Heat: No Change in The Spread Atop World Standings

It was a perfect September evening at the final stop of 2010 at the Dodge World Chuckwagon Championships in Edmonton.

Kelly Sutherland, in search of his eleventh career World Chuckwagon Championship held the status quo in the World Standings after ending up in a dead heat with Buddy Bensmiller who started the night in 2nd place in the World Standings.

Sutherland leads with 1,265 points, 87 points better than 2-time World Champion Buddy Bensmiller with the defending World Champion Jason Glass sitting in for 3rd place in the World Standings after night 1 in Edmonton.

The World Champion will be declared on Saturday night, with no points being awarded on Sunday.

In the race for Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby, former champion Kirk Sutherland, driving the Pipestone Carriers Inc. outfit, opened up the season finale with the top time of 1:18.96. Coming off barrel number 2 in heat number 2, Kirk Sutherland placed first overall for the day with his second wagon by just 5 one-hundreds of a second over Cliff Cunningham who placed 2nd, followed by Mike Vigen in 3rd, with Layne MacGillivray and Kurt Bensmiller rounding out the top 5 for the night.

Kirk Sutherland is replacing Brian Mayan who is unable to compete.

The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday night will go into the sudden death championship final heat where the winner will take home the Edmonton Chuckwagon Derby Championship. Events from the Dodge World Chuckwagon Championships and Edmonton’s Chuckwagon Derby will continue every night at 7:00pm with live coverage heard live each night also starting at 7:00pm on Classic Country AM1060 out of Calgary, 890AM CJDC out of Dawson Creek and 99.7 FM The Wolf out of Bonnyville.
