The best young performers in the country are about to descend on Stampede Park.
The 2010 Canadian Youth Talent Competition comes to Calgary this Friday featuring 16 young talents from across the nation. These performers, between the ages of 13 and 21, have won at both their local fair level and provincial zone level to grab a spot in the national competition. The careers of many Canadian stars, including Paul Brandt, Michael Bublé and Blake McGrath, took off after participating in this contest.
The winner of the Stampede’s very own talent search, Meg Contini, will be vying for the top prize with her jazz-inspired vocals, and the Stampede’s 2009 Talent Search winner, High River’s guitar virtuoso, Calum Graham, will make a guest performance at the competition as well. Graham won the national title last year when the competition was held in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
The event will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges including Emmy-winning composer, Dave Pierce, and Alberta Ballet’s Jean Grand-Maître.
The Canadian Youth Talent Competition is part of the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions’ conference which takes place in a different Canadian city each year. Tickets to the competition will be available at the door or by calling the Stampede Ticket Office at 1.800.661.1767 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are limited.
The Stampede’s Talent Search takes place during The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth each July and is just one of many youth programs funded by the Stampede.
