Day 2 of the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby was run under partly cloudy skies and 16°C and again with very good racetrack conditions. When the night wrapped up, Colt Cosgrave, driving the Edge School for Athletes outfit, won his first career Calgary Stampede day money with a run of 1:17.01.
Coming off barrel number 1 in heat number 7, Cosgrave posted the fast time of the night won top money by 12 one-hundreds of a second over day 1 winner Rick Fraser. For the second consecutive night Mark Sutherland placed third, Vern Nolin was fourth and Jerry Bremner rounded out the top 5 for the night.
After 2 runs Rick Fraser leads the overall aggregate with a 2 day combined time of 2:32.07. That puts him 97 one-hundreds of a second ahead of Mark Sutherland in second place overall with Wayne Knight and Vern Nolin making out the top 4 after 2 days, with Roger Moore in fifth place overall.
The aggregate winner will be declared after 8 nights on Friday, July 15, and the top 8 in the aggregate on that day will go into “Semi Final Saturday.” The top 4 times from heats 8 and 9 on semi final Saturday on July 16 will go into the sudden death championship final heat. The winner of the final heat will be declared the 2011 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion.
Day 3 from the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby can be heard live on Saturday, July 10 at 6:15pm on Classic Country AM1060 out of Calgary, 890AM CJDC out of Dawson Creek, 99.7 FM The Wolf out of Bonnyville. 96.6 CKFM out of Olds.
