There was official pomp and ceremony plus government recognition as March 3-9 was officially declared Cowboy Heritage Week in British Columbia.

The 17th Annual Kamloops Cowboy Festival was opened by the Honourable Judith Guichon, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, piped in by Pipe Major John B. Mager and accompanied by HADC Major Wendy McKenzie, Aide-de-Camp.

The winner of the Joe Marten Memorial Award for the Preservation of Cowboy Heritage in BC was awarded to cowboy, saddle maker and very talented speaker, Don Loewen of Merritt, B.C.

Kamloops is hosting The Brier next year, so the Cowboy Festival dates have been moved to Mar 13-16, 2014. For more info visit www.bcchs.com.
